Product release conference for multi-spectral fundus camera MSI C2000 was held in Shenzhen on Jan.11th, 2019 and was presided over by Prof. Wang Ningli, co-inventor of MSI C2000. Prof. Li Xiaoxin, a top notch ophthalmologist and chief specialist in multi-spectral technology application, gave an account of his connections with multi-spectral technology, and introduced its application in ophthalmological field as well as the creative points of MSI C2000.
Prof. Li said that multi-spectral imaging (MSI) is safe and non-invasive as it forms images of the fundus layers by using the distinct absorption features of the spectrums in different tissue-levels.
Besides the conventional function of taking fundus photos, MSI fundus camera has new features as well:
Quantitative Screening of Hypertension and Arteriosclerosis
Currently China has the highest annual death rate resulting from cerebral apoplexy. The vascular conditions can be well observed through examination by MSI C2000, and compared with traditional fundus cameras, MSI C2000 can detect fundus lesions in an earlier stage. Featuring with its wider angle of field and clearer images MSI C2000 can also be used to detect hypertension and early arteriosclerosis in a non-invasive and non-mydriatic approach.
DR Screening (Diabetic Retinopathy)
MSI C2000 enables multiple monochromatic spectrums to go through the eye ground to get gray-scale images of high-contrast and featured lesions when the absorption and reflection are completed. In the course of AI (artificial intelligence) research, it is found that signs recognition and acquisition became easier and more precise because of MSI C2000.
CNV Screening (Choroidal Neovascularization)
The long wavelength spectral range by MSI C2000 can shoot the choroid layer of fundus deep and clearly present the choroidopathy corresponding to the examination results by OCT, providing an easy way to check fundus deep.
Examination of Retinal Pigment Epithelial Damage
MSI C2000 is superior in checking retinal pigment epithelial damage as its images are clearer than the refined pictures taken by some of its competitors. MSI C2000 is even more sensitive to lesion capture than FFA.
Prof. Li shared his remarks on the holistic performance of MSI C2000.According to his clinical experience and diagnosis procedures, he suggested that examination by non- mydriatic multi-spectral fundus camera should be added before triage.
